What are limiting beliefs?
Limiting beliefs are thoughts or beliefs that we tell ourselves.
It can also manifest in negative self talk that can hold you back from achieving or reaching your potential. The thoughts that we have about ourselves have a huge impact on us and our mindset. If you would like to challenge or reframe some of your limiting beliefs, read on!
Ways we can challenge our limiting beliefs
Step 1) Take some time to identify and recognise the negative thinking pattern that is occurring. Notice how this makes you feel and how it may be holding you back. You may wish to write this thought or belief down.
Step 2) A hugely important step: question the belief! Is your thought based on evidence? You may even want to explore where you think this repeating thought or belief may have come from. Is your thought an assumption that you have made? Questioning the belief is hugely powerful.
Step 3) Begin to work on your limiting beliefs. A great place to start is using affirmations. Create positive affirmations that support your own personal growth and goals. Write them down and repeat them when you find yourself heading back towards those limiting beliefs.
Overcoming limiting beliefs is an ongoing process and can often require patience and self-compassion. Be open to the process and over time, you will most definitely begin to see the benefits.
